Comment: Tulipano is part of the Ti Amo Collection
The Ti Amo ('I love you' in Italian) collection was the debut fragrance collection by Italian perfumer Hilde Soliani. It comprises of five fragrances, with 'TI AMO' being an acronym that represents the first letter of each of the five releases (all of which are the Italian names of particular flowers):
T = Tulipano
I = Iris
A = Anemone
M = Margherita
O = Ortensia
In addition, the flowers listed above weren't randomly selected, as each one encapsulates a cherished emotion or memory. Tulipano (later rechristened Il Tuo Tulipano) is a memento of her father's voice and warmth.
Briefly opening with tart citrus green notes, these subside to reveal a pleasantly sweet fruit cocktail (dominated by a mannered peach accord). However, lurking underneath is what could be best described as a creamy wafer and vanilla pairing, with faint dusty traces of cocoa. Smelling like a demure floral version of Montale's Chocolate Greedy, the woods are discreet and the musk keeps the proceedings at a dignified level.
Supposedly meant to recreate the smell of tulips, it succeeds... but only for the first 20 seconds. With average longevity and decent sillage, it's still a beautiful offering, regardless of its intended conceptual theme.
