It's becoming quite clear that Profumi del Forte is a superior alternative to another Italian niche house, Sigilli. In comparison, the Profumi del Forte releases certainly provide more masterful renditions of both citrus-aromatics and amber. With Tirrenico, aquatics have now been added to the list.

Inspired by the Tyrrhenian Sea, situated around the western part of the Italian peninsular, it possesses a charm that most marine scents are unable to compete with. It's crisp, invigorating and a little salty but, thankfully, any incorporated synthetic notes fail to ruin the composition – and nor is it overwhelmingly green at any given stage in its development.

Featuring accords such as oakmoss, elemi and fruits, it's more of an aromatic than a standard aquatic and this clearly shows. However, it should be mentioned that it won't appeal to those who dislike aniseed and fennel, as the fennel is evident in abundance.

With a metallic mossy drydown, it's a surprisingly enjoyable creation that shows how aquatics should be done. It's evocative, well-blended and long-lasting. Although one has no intention of ever investing in an aquatic again, Tirrenico (along with Sigillli's Tyrsenoi) would a prime candidate should a change of heart occur.
