Remember Wham Bars? Those bars of chewy toffee, riddled with pink pieces of raspberry sherbet? Well, that's very much what the opening of Roma Imperiale reminds one of (albeit with a little astringent tomato leaf added), before heading towards a floral-imbued foundation of oakmoss, vanilla, sandalwood and animal musks.
However, during the mid notes, it soon transforms into something that would be best described as a mild spicy version of Matlow's Refreshers (the same brand that also produces Drumsticks), before a vanilla-musk drydown emerges and eventually overwhelms.
While these sweets were personal childhood favourites, one doesn't want to smell like them. And the last thing one needs is a tearaway toddler, persistently sniffing and nibbling one's ear, on a long bus journey home...
