Eccelso by Profumum

*****
Year: 2011

Notes: bergamot, nutmeg, magnolia, patchouli, labdanum, sandalwood, musk
Contrary to Profumum's reputation for dense and heavy fragrances, Eccelso follows a similar masculine path to Aquae Noblis while, at the same time, coming across as an improvement over their woody misstep, Alba.

Based on the listed notes alone, one already knew that Eccelso would be a timid offering. The gentle bergamot and nutmeg opening fuses well with the magnolia, paving the way for some patchouli to surface (while allowing unavoidable comparisons to Oxiana to arise). But, with the noticeable presence of some labdanum, it's mostly a subdued woody-musk concoction that isn't as interesting or unique as it could have been.

With lingering traces of labdanum, sandalwood and musk into the drydown, like Alba, Eccelso isn't really worth the money for such vapid woody transparency.
