Aoud Ambre by Montale

*****
Year: 2005

Notes: rose, rock rose from the Indies, Eastern amber, oud, 50 additional components
With a sugary sweet mixture of spices, oud and rock rose, Aoud Ambre initially bears a strong resemblance to the resinous and powdery nature of Montale's very own Boisé Vanillé, hinting the inclusion of some aldehydes. Unfortunately, for most of its duration, it's a rather muddled affair with a distinct tobacco accord ever present. In addition, it fluctuates between smelling pleasant and unattractively skanky at various intervals.

However, during the drydown, it gets progressively worse with an evidently flat and bland aroma, consisting of a faint ambery sweetness and not very much oud. By this stage, its presence is so nondescript that, if you don't remind yourself, you'll forget you're actually wearing it.

With minimal sillage and very good longevity, fornication in a can it most certainly is not.
