Amber Royale by Eden Botanicals

*****
Year: 2001

Notes: cardamom, sea buckthorn, spikenard, frankincense, myrrh, Amber Essence Oil, rock rose, agarwood, Atlas cedar, sandalwood

Comment: Vintage formulation

Amber Royale is denser, darker and woodier than Amber Essence Oil, with accords of frankincense, cedar and agarwood intermingling with the reserved sweetness of cardamom and rock rose.

Due to a dominant woody base, one naturally thought that it would be more tenacious than Amber Essence Oil but, surprisingly, this isn't the case. While at times it's reminiscent of the very essence oil blend that it's based on, its staying power is noticeably inferior. As for the agarwood, it's disappointingly anchored in the background – serving to provide further credence to the composition's dark woody aura and nothing more.

Although Amber Royale is more resinous, venturing closer towards the masculine side, it isn't as endearing as Amber Essence Oil. With improved longevity, less cedar and a more striking agarwood accord, one's opinion of it would have been more favourable.
