Città di Kyoto by Santa Maria Novella

*****
Year: 2005

Notes: bergamot, orange, lotus, ylang-ylang, jasmine, Florentine iris, amber, cedar, sandalwood
Created in celebration of the 40th anniversary of sister cities Kyoto and Florence, Città di Kyoto starts out with a fleeting frankincense accord against a backdrop of woods and florals (with no citrus detectable). The powdery iris smells more like violet while a fruitiness, which is barely detectable, permeates in the background.

Sadly, it fails to convincingly encapsulate the mysterious and sublime qualities of fine Japanese incense, with an ephemeral and subtle performance that's unable to render any personal satisfaction.
