Notes: bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, lime, tangerine, orange, lavender, orange blossom, violet, lily of the valley, spring flowers, vanilla, caramel, white musk
1873 is an inviting creation that joyfully awakens the senses. The juicy hesperidic opening is delicious, with the lime providing a green astringency. Unlike many other fragrances, the citruses don't completely fade. Instead, they linger for quite some time, constantly reminding the wearer of its impressive grand entrance.

Coupled with some lavender, the citrus fruits mingle with the emergent orange blossom. As the citrus recedes further, the lily of the valley gradually surfaces and proceeds to flesh out some of the areas where the top notes have, inevitably, dissipated.

By the drydown, it transforms into a gentle powdery skin scent. The vanilla is low-key, with an ill-fitting caramel accord dominating. Personally, this is the weakest stage, and one would have preferred that the momentum of the first two stages were supported by something more complementary, such as oakmoss, tonka bean or even a healthy serving of labdanum.

Ultimately, it could have been significantly enhanced if the base notes were better executed. Along with Ambre 114 and 1969, these are the only three offerings that one can recommend from this house.
