Comment: Aoud Safran is part of the Bronze Collection
Montale has unleashed various fragrance lines within recent years: ouds and attars, non-ouds, the Confidential Collection (parfum extraits) and the Intermediary Collection (a superfluous, insipid and quite expensive range of fragrances, developed primarily for layering). Now, there's suddenly a fifth line, called the Bronze Collection, but the logical relevance of its existence is still unclear...
Aoud Safran is one of the first releases from this collection but, if the artistic level of this creation is anything to go by, it's pretty much a redundant line. Compared to an average release, from Montale's standard oud line, it's nowhere near as satisfying.
Imagine a timid Aoud Lime and you would be very close. However, in this case, the oud is turned down several notches, with the focus firmly placed on the saffron. It's certainly more interesting than the other offerings from this line, which include Wild Aoud, Deep Roses and Boisé-Fruité, but it seriously lacks any oomph.
Sadly, there's no danger, no surprises and no firm premise on which to create a lasting impression. Unless you have yearned for a weaker and less brash version of Aoud Lime, Aoud Safran is an insignificant release for the already converted (and it only lasts for a couple of hours).
