Deep Roses by Montale

*****
Year: 2009

Notes: Argentinian green mandarin, peony, Bulgarian rose, oud, amber, white musk

Comment: Deep Roses is part of the Bronze Collection

By Montale's standards, Deep Roses is an extremely insipid offering. At first, the rose is hardly detectable but eventually surfaces in a relatively nondescript manner. It stays very close to the skin but discerning any other notes, especially close-up to the application points, is almost futile and rather frustrating.

With the emerging amber providing a certain degree of extra support, the rose accord further intensifies as time passes. Unfortunately, it isn't enough to sufficiently rectify its acute lack of presence as, within less than three hours, all that remains is an uninspiring soapy rose drydown.

Sadly, there's simply no apparent richness or depth in the composition whatsoever, with Muted Roses being a far more appropriate name.
