Grabazzi by Gendarme

*****
Year: 1995

Notes: bergamot, lemon, lime, pepper, kola nut, lavender, lilac, carnation, jasmine, leather, musk
According to Gendarme's creator, Topper Schroeder, Grabazzi is best suited for "when you absolutely must get laid". Such a tacky statement renders one speechless...

Viewed as a spicy version of Gendarme, Grabazzi opens with putrid and synthetic hairspray top notes, formed of prosaic citrus accords and a brash spiciness. Once the lavender emerges and mingles with the spices, the overall effect is almost tar-like. As it evolves, subtle florals provide a banal soapiness to the proceedings.

With a base of leather and white musk, the drydown is metallic and grey, with an unconvincing leather accord that smells more like a chemical agent. And although a pleasant floral aspect unexpectedly re-enters the fray, those dire initial impressions fail to completely fade from one's memory.

After the initial blast, it's very subtle on the skin with longevity of at least eight hours. But, with that said, it's an unpleasant and nondescript outing that one would much rather forget.
