Comment: Versilia Aurum is part of the Versilia Collection / Eau de Parfum review

Versilia Aurum is a well-composed, though not particularly innovative, floral-gourmand. With a sweet strawberry and plum creaminess, it may also prove to be tooth-achingly cloying for some.

Accords of plum, rose and vanilla are clearly identifiable, with a balsamic woody-musk base. But, regardless of the name, one fails to establish any olfactory connection with that of gold, as it smells pink more than anything else. In addition, although there's no almond in sight, it ultimately comes across as another powdery loukhoum fragrance from a niche house.

It's both charming and smooth but there are less expensive alternatives that could also be considered, such as Montale's Sweet Oriental Dream. With regards to staying power, it's not as impressive as expected with sillage that's considerably discreet.

While it's not as groundbreaking as Versilia Platinum, it's still a high-quality offering that's sadly at odds with its exorbitant price tag. Yes, it does smell luxurious, but this is very much a moot point when one is already aware of substitutes that are just as rewarding to acquire for less.
