Comment: Versilia Platinum is part of the Versilia Collection

Versilia Platinum is the first release in quite a while that's caused much bewilderment, compulsion and intrigue. Developed by Arturetto Landi, all that one can say is that it's been one hell of a ride...

Composed as an olfactory interpretation of platinum, its general aroma is astringent, tart and unrelenting. Try to imagine a more acerbic version of Montale's Aoud Lime, devoid of its sensual amber drydown and with the rose toned down a notch or two, and you'll be venturing into very similar territory.

The cedar dominates, within a labyrinthine complexity of violently piercing citruses, rhubarb, soft florals, various earthy woods and a meditative frankincense accord. There's also something lustrous and quite bracing about it, with the freesia and lily of the valley imparting a suggestive marine element to the proceedings. With a drydown comprising of vanilla, immortelle and oakmoss, its foundation is both sensual and reassuringly sturdy.

Although one's not terribly enthusiastic about cedar scents, it explores this note in a unique and innovative way that deserves respect. The only real downside is that, while it starts out in an opulent manner, it doesn't project quite as much later on. Nevertheless, it's an excellent rendition with plenty of bite.
