Patchouli Amber Spice by Eden Botanicals

*****
Year: 1992

Notes: cardamom, patchouli, Amber Essence Oil, vetiver, sandalwood

Comment: Vintage formulation

Patchouli Amber Spice commences with a pungent, earthy and mentholated patchouli opening, which is darker than the typical patchouli essential oils one normally encounters.

The cardamom is astute at first but noticeable upon the opening. As the patchouli recedes, some vetiver gently emerges and the cardamom increases its volume to a certain degree. The overall transition is effortless, as the amber holds everything together and the sandalwood reveals itself more towards the very end.

With endurance of approximately five hours, it successfully alludes to the amber-based patchouli fragrances by the Italian niche houses (with the name being indicative of both the order and intensity in which the main notes appear). Although one would have preferred the patchouli to be less camphorous, it's still a glorious effort.
