Eau de Sisley 3 by Sisley

*****
Year: 2009

Notes: bergamot, grapefruit, lemon, mandarin, peach, apricot, red ginger, Chinese osmanthus, vetiver, patchouli, benzoin, vanilla, musk
Although it's the most adventurous of the three Eau de Sisleys, Eau de Sisley 3 is also the least preferred. The citrus notes disperse within moments and, although the red ginger occasionally makes a brief appearance, it's the osmanthus that initially prevails, while accompanied by a mild fruity facet.

Towards the drydown, the red ginger re-emerges to overwhelm (and eventually dominate) the osmanthus. The transition to the woody and vanilla drydown is well-executed, but one gets the distinct impression that its grand finale is one big anti-climax. After a while, only whispers of vanilla, patchouli and musk remain.

Personally, one didn't appreciate the coupling of the red ginger and osmanthus, and felt it to be more floral than spicy at times. While it's admirably well-constructed, one would have to apply liberally in order for its charms to be fully revealed. Even so, given the price, there are so many fragrances far more worthy that cost roughly the same.
