Year: 2015
Notes: bergamot, pink pepper, salt, artemisia, acacia, may lily, cyclamen, ylang-ylang, patchouli, vanilla, hinoki, cedar, white musk
Comment: Nox is part of the Hatria Collection
Supposedly based on hinoki (a species of cypress native to Japan), Nox is a nondescript woody effort that fails to truly explore this star note.
Commencing with a dark, dry and astringent woody-green grittiness, the salt (Angela Ciampagna's house note, one is guessing) cuts through the arboreous haze. However, once this initial stage has faded, it's pretty much an adorned cedar scent, with indecipherable floral nuances and some vanilla. Possessing a bland woody-musk foundation, it's an uninspiring creation that attempts to deceive the wearer with its absinthe-like verdant opening (largely courtesy of the artemisia).
With decent projection, and very good persistence of at least ten hours, one will award an extra star mainly for the opening. It's just a pity the composition carelessly strayed from such a promising olfactory path.
