Year: 2008
Notes: tomato vine, tomato leaf
Comment: Stecca is part of the Teatro Olfattivo Parma 08 Collection
Based on the fresh aroma of tomato leaves and vines, Stecca is what it states on the tin – unashamedly green, sappy and immensely earthy.
However, before it reaches this stage, the primary top note may initially confound some – either a tart grapefruit or grapefruit seed extract accord that, contrasted against the astringent harshness of the verdant notes, smells rather synthetic in its fervency.
Possessing a feeble mintiness, it's quite a simple composition that's strident and invigorating both at the same time. Unfortunately, it doesn't last particularly long. However, regardless of this major flaw, it's still an enjoyable pick me up scent that shares some olfactory similarities to Diptyque's L'Ombre dans L'Eau.
So, if Stecca sounds appealing, either the above Diptyque offering or even Sisley's Eau de Campagne would be more rewarding alternatives – they are longer lasting, possess more complexity and can easily be acquired for much less (especially if you know where to look).
Just one word of warning: don't go expecting any olfactory associations with olives and pizza crusts...
