Encens Chembur by Byredo

*****
Year: 2008

Notes: bergamot, lemon, elemi, ginger, nutmeg, temple incense, labdanum, amber, musk
Inspired by childhood memories of evocative incense, from a Hindu temple in Chembur, India, Encens Chembur is supposedly a nostalgic rendition of frankincense.

Yet, it's nothing more than a soft, transparent and inoffensive spicy frankincense creation, which isn't that much different from the cheaper designer equivalents. With whispers of ginger and nutmeg, its frankincense construct rests upon a dry and derivative woody-amber foundation. Overall, it's soapy, anaemic and lacks any vigour, thus leaving one totally unimpressed.

With near zero sillage and poor longevity, it further confirms that this house's offerings are pseudo high-concept olfactory outings, which are way overpriced for what they are.
