Pretty Fruity by Montale

*****
Year: 2011

Notes: citrus, blackcurrant, passion fruit, lily of the valley, magnolia, musk
After all the lacklustre Montale fruity-florals, Pretty Fruity didn't sound terribly exciting and was initially met with a weary sigh. But surprisingly, not only is it devoid of any floral accords, it's actually not that bad.

As expected, there's nothing particularly unique about it but this jammy fruit cocktail of citrus, blackcurrant and passion fruit is vibrant, sweet and mouth-wateringly juicy. Although quite feminine, both its bright and fun-loving characteristics are obvious from the captivating fruity prologue to the lingering musk finale.

While it may come across as a superior (and less synthetic) alternative to Byredo's Pulp, it sadly possesses a designer fragrance vibe that intrudes on one's enjoyment of it. Also, when coupled with its structural simplicity, it's very difficult to grant it further acclaim.

With very good longevity and sillage, one is unsure what to award it. If only half-stars were possible...
