Aoud Samarkand by Montale

*****
Year: 2013

Notes: citrus, geranium, oud, labdanum, musk

Comment: Aoud Samarkand is an Arab Gulf states exclusive
Aoud Samarkand comes across as an aromatic aquatic, with a prominent white musk base.

The citruses are crystalline but the geranium never brings itself to the fore. As for the oud, when combined with the geranium, it imparts tobacco-like nuances. Also, a timid animalic sweetness is just about discernible, from the addition of some labdanum, but it's the metallic screechiness of the white musk that prevails.

Essentially, it's no better than designer sport releases of the same ilk, which isn't what one was expecting from such an exclusive release. With regards to performance, sillage is modest and longevity is about average.

Passable but inessential.
