Aoud Greedy by Montale

*****
Year: 2013

Notes: lemon, liquorice, flowers, amber, patchouli, vetiver, oud, white musk
Maybe it's one's nose but there's hardly any oud in Aoud Greedy, if at all...

Starting off with a striking lemon and liquorice infused sherbet blast, the ambery floral heart quickly seeps in to add some further sweetness. During the top and mid notes, it also possesses a somewhat gritty dustiness. As this grittiness subsides, a bland woody-musk base surfaces. But, while there's a dark woody accord within the vicinity, it smells closer to cedar than oud.

Its development is very rapid and, within half-an-hour, all that eventually remains are subtle traces of woods and white musk. Disregarding the intriguing opening, it's certainly one Montale release that ends up short-changing the wearer.
