Inspired by the classic Italian woody-citrus scents, Aoud Ever is a citrus and oud outing. However, it also uses an earlier citrus-based Montale creation, Royal Aoud, as a rough blueprint.
Commencing with a piquant citrus outburst, the citruses are full-bodied, re-enforced by some lemongrass. This citrus-aromatic mélange is both tart and vibrant, with an impressive high-level of tenacity. But it's only when the oud finally emerges that it becomes less biting and more sweet.
Within an hour, the citruses and lemongrass have almost completely subsided, revealing a dark and somewhat woody-leather oud premise. As further time passes, the oud increases its presence with vigour, verging closely towards Dark Aoud territory. By the drydown, only a creamy ambery woodiness is evident.
Although it lacks the density and projection of Dark Aoud, it could still appeal to those who found Royal Aoud a little too formal. Projection is good but its lasting power could have been more substantial.
