Perle di Bianca by Simone Cosac Profumi

*****
Year: 2008

Notes: blackberry, neroli, jasmine, iris, myrrh, amber, musk
Originally released by Pitti Fragranze, before being re-packaged and re-launched under the Italian niche house name of Simone Cosac Profumi, Perle di Bianca is based on Bianca Cappello – the fiery and very controversial Venetian mistress (and then wife) of Francesco I de'Medici.

Overall, it's a sweet, soft and enticing fruity-floral fragrance, with a radiant white floral core and an ambery musk foundation. But the fact that it was originally selected as a fragrant gift, in specially created goodie bags for the female guests of 2009's Academy Awards, made it quite difficult to take this creation seriously at first. After all, the last thing that would interest Hollywood high-fliers would be something both... daring and unorthodox.

However, while its contemporary aroma fails to fully complement its source of inspiration, it's still a pleasurable effort that's in possession of a powdery abundance of warmth and sensuality. And even though the iris remains discreet, the myrrh radiates and lifts the proceedings throughout.

Slotting in-between a modest designer fruity-floral and an Isabey offering, while possessing moderate durability, it has something to satisfy floral aficionados – provided they are prepared to cast certain prejudices aside.
