Iris by Santa Maria Novella

*****
Year: 1901

Notes: violet, iris, woods

Comment: Eau de Cologne review

Unlike many iris fragrances, Iris is neither earthy nor overtly sweet. Actually, it's a little bit of both...

With a powdery nuance, the opening exudes a fragile and yet lucid violet accord. After a while, the iris emerges from the depths, accompanied by a subtle green tinge. The two notes then proceed to effortlessly weave in and out of each other, until the growing intensity of the iris overwhelms the ever-weakening violet.

Although it's not an unadulterated rendition of iris, as originally expected, it's still an appealing creation. With a faint woody drydown and moderate sillage, it's also rather short-lived.
