After a rich blackcurrant opening, the largely subdued Mad Madame is contrary to what the name implies.

With a nod towards Christian Dior's Poison, Mad Madame possesses an unmistakeable purple-like aura, which eventually gives way to a creamy white floral bouquet. As for any purported skankiness, one can only conclude that the featured animal musks are either synthetic or were used sparingly. According to one's nose, the faecal aspect is more suggestive than pronounced, throughout the composition's development.

Unfortunately, the proceedings smell far less interesting after the florals start to fade, with some meagre woods and plenty of ambroxan in the base. And although a purple aroma continues to linger, the clinical musky finale is too uninspiring and generic for one to really care.

Resolutely feminine and not too sweet, Mad Madame will naturally win some fans but is more mainstream than niche. Sillage is moderate, with average tenacity.
