Ruh by Pekji

Year: 2015

Notes: coffee, cardamom, saffron, rose
Featuring some spices and a touch of coffee, on a largely jammy rose canvas, Ruh may be impressive for the uninitiated but, for those who have experienced various examples of Arabian and Indian perfumery, it's a pretty generic affair.

With grape-like subtleties and suggestive white floral flourishes, it's nothing more than a rose-based mukhallat, diluted with perfumer's alcohol. The inclusion of saffron is extremely predictable, and the coffee and cardamom pairing isn't substantial enough to make the composition really stand out. However, a subtle undercurrent of ruh khus (or North Indian vetiver) in the base does offer a small degree of redemption.

Overall, it's both pleasant and inoffensive, but that's about it. As always with this Turkish niche house, sillage is moderate but its staying power is disappointing.
