Vetiver by Mazzolari

*****
Year: 2006

Notes: bergamot, lemon, orange, nutmeg, flowers, tobacco, vetiver, sandalwood
Vetiver is a peculiar interpretation of the vetiver theme, as it's neither of the dry or smoky variety but, instead, is sweeter with a floral component. It's soft, smooth and delightfully creamy, with a bright citrus opening that soon gives way to the vetiver and spices (most noticeably nutmeg and black pepper) to weave their olfactory charms. There's also the addition of some tobacco in the midst but, compared to Guerlain's Vetiver, its overall structure is richer and better integrated.

With the vetiver never becoming dense or overbearing, a dry and powdery sandalwood accord joins the lingering notes. Disappointingly, it hardly projects that much and possesses average longevity (lasting around four to five hours), which is a great pity as one considers it to be among Mazzolari's more intriguing creations.

As impressive as it may be, it lacks sufficient substance to maintain one's interest until the very end. However, this shouldn't detract from the fact that it offers something less run-of-the-mill.
