Pivoine by Estéban

*****
Year: 2006

Notes: lychee, violet, freesia, cyclamen, peony, Chinese plum, sandalwood, woods, musk

Comment: Pivoine is part of Les Matières Collection / Eau de Toilette review

Pivoine is encapsulated via a fruity-floral aroma of decay. The woods conflict with poorly conceived florals, while a strong plum note adds a jammy sweetness to its skewed demeanour. By the drydown, it becomes easier to tolerate, with the combination of plum and woods producing a slightly sharp caramel-like aura.

With moderate longevity and sillage, it struggles to emulate the olfactory legacy of Shiseido's Féminité du Bois and, instead, smells like a messy and poorly-conceived mainstream designer fragrance.
