Year: 2009
Notes: Mexican lime, bitter orange, Cuban rum, cinnamon, Cuban cigar leaf, mahogany, Arabian coffee, cocoa, burnt caramel
Although Nejma's Puro was a dismal failure, Puro Intense is a slight improvement but only because it strives to add something new to the bay rum and tobacco theme, whilst not competing directly against the more superior interpretations. Incorporating a gourmand angle (with the addition of coffee, cocoa and caramel accords) really shouldn't work but somehow it does.
Unlike Puro's morbid sobriety, the rum in Puro Intense is much more pronounced, coupled with a hint of lime in the opening. However, soon afterwards, it transforms into an unadulterated gourmand, with the caramel being the most noticeable accord. The drydown isn't quite as dire as Puro's but is still lacking, with only vague traces of cocoa, coffee and mahogany.
Overall, Puro Intense doesn't smell particularly intense or of high-quality, with longevity and sillage that's barely noteworthy.
