Year: 2006
Notes: Amalfi lemon, cypress, Spanish broom, cedar
Acqua Viva smells very similar to Annick Goutal's Eau d'Hadrien but, at the same time, is a lot more tolerable to wear. The same Beecham's Honey and Lemon aroma is largely present but, to be honest, saccharine lemon and crushed paracetamol is an olfactory combination that fails to even remotely appeal.
Although it's not too sweet, the lemon is rather dense courtesy of the broom flower. It's also accompanied by a slowly emerging dirt note that becomes more prevalent during the drydown, which one finds quite off-putting. Its longevity is pretty good (around six hours) but it tends to develop close to the skin for most of its lifespan.
So, if you're looking for a refreshing and zesty lemon fragrance, this is most certainly not it. But, if the parallels drawn with Eau d'Hadrien sound enticing, it may be worth investigating.
