1899 (Ernest Hemingway) by Histoires de Parfums

*****
Year: 2013

Notes: Italian bergamot, black pepper, juniper berry, cinnamon, orange blossom, Florentine iris, amber, vanilla, vetiver
1899 is an ultra-mellow woody-aromatic, which sets the scene with some bergamot and spices.

With a solemn floral core, an underlining fruity sweetness is occasionally detectable. But, apart from the boozy juniper, a watery iris accord, and some interplay between the cinnamon and vanilla, there isn't really a lot going on to capture one's attention. In a nutshell, the composition's too insipid and feels unfinished. With low sillage and poor lasting power, if it was richer and had more oomph, one might have been appreciated more.

Drying down to something resembling immortelle, it's just another humdrum Histoires de Parfums creation that lacks sufficient edge, richness and zeal.
