Pure Essence No.1: Frankincense by Neal's Yard

*****
Year: 2011

Notes: bergamot, lime, Spanish marjoram, pink pepper, lavender, neroli, frankincense, myrrh, patchouli, vetiver, copaiba balsam
Coming across as a lighter version of Tauer Perfumes' Incense Extrême, Pure Essence No.1: Frankincense is a bone-dry, yet slightly creamy, frankincense offering with an intriguingly mentholated marjoram top note.

Granted, it smells natural and the accords are well-integrated but it's too ephemeral for one's tastes. Even with the possession of a woody-balsamic base, one also gets the impression that it's more top-heavy. And although it smells impressive upon application, disappointment regarding its general performance rapidly sets in.

But in all fairness, frankincense essential oil isn't usually enduring and, as this Eau de Parfum is 100% natural and organic, it's important to take such factors into account. Add its agreeable price point to the equation, one is unable to award it any less – especially when it's free from any eyeball-rolling pretension.
