Notes: citrus, spices, green notes, vetiver, woods, sandalwood
With a lack of well-composed modern green fragrances, the existence of Mazzolari is more than welcome. This woody-herbaceous creation offers an olfactory evocation of luscious green Mediterranean hillsides and forests, with spicy and smoky facets pervading throughout. It's earthy but not necessarily dry, linear although complex, herbaceous rather than coniferous, and slightly sweet but in an unobtrusive manner.

At a guess, the green notes consist of galbanum, clary sage, coriander and rosemary. As for the spices, black pepper, cardamom and possibly clove are discernible. Combined with woods (comprising of what one suspects to be patchouli, cedar and oakmoss – in addition to the vetiver and sandalwood) and a light citrus undercurrent, this mélange of accords invokes a collective olfactory aroma of old-school masculinity, whilst still managing to come across as somewhat contemporary.

Possessing good lasting power and moderate projection, one would have been further impressed if it was more tenacious. As it stands, this house's signature scent remains a remarkable achievement.
