It must be duly confessed that one isn't the biggest fan of Jean-Claude Elléna, whose modern and minimalist creations have left one largely cold. Personally, one considers most of his creations to be more concerned with the intellectual and technical aspect of perfumery rather than the emotional or spiritual.

L'Eau d'Hiver is the perfect example – a soft, transparent, weak and synthetic almond fragrance, with a touch of heliotrope and a castrated iris note. Possessing a transparent powdery sweetness, the composition is dry with a nuttiness similar to that of L'Artisan's Bois Farine. However, its sterile and synthetic nature continues to repel during its relatively short lifespan.

Smelling like a Johnson & Johnson body product, it's painfully bland, apathetic and insubstantial, with abysmal longevity of less than two hours and zero sillage.
