Nejma Four by Nejma

*****
Year: 2008

Notes: Italian bergamont, orange, vineyard peaches, Bourbon geranium, Ottoman rose, daffodil, ylang-ylang, Egyptian jasmine, rock rose, patchouli, oud, oakmoss, sandalwood
In contrast to the other Nejmas, Nejma Four is a decidedly more aromatic affair, with spicy green undertones and subtle floral trimmings. The bergamot is unobtrusive and yet noticeably dense, while the peach adds a very distinctive syrupy sweetness.

Unfortunately, the oud and geranium awkwardly clash with one another – creating an unnecessary astringency, not dissimilar from sweet woods combined with wild galbanum. It's only after a short while that the geranium is eventually overpowered by the excessive peachy sweetness. Soon, all that's left is a crystallised syrupiness of peaches and woods, which continues to smoulder throughout the drydown.

It should also be noted that the composition repeatedly suffers from a Jekyll and Hyde effect – often fluctuating from smelling alluring to something that smells poorly blended and cheap. Actually, come to think of it, it's the one common dominator (apart from the oud) that's clearly apparent in most of the Nejma series.
