Sandalo by Santa Maria Novella

*****
Year: unknown

Notes: sandalwood
With regards to pure Mysore sandalwood oil, this elixir possesses buttery and creamy properties, with a subtle sweetness that hints at greater things to come through sufficient ageing and maturing. In comparison, it's a lot smoother than New Caledonian sandalwood oil, which is significantly sweeter but consists of both a prominent and fuzzy berry-like aroma that lingers for quite some time.

With Sandalo, one is unable to discern even a vague connection with either one of the above scent profiles, and is instead met with an uninviting opening of harsh eucalyptus and medicinal alcohol. After this stage subsides, it's very much a nondescript smoky woody fragrance, with terrible sillage and longevity. As for the sandalwood, one can hardly detect any.

Personally, it would make a lot more sense to purchase a bottle of pure sandalwood essential oil (regardless of age or geographical origin).
