Santalum by Profumum

*****
Year: 2003

Notes: cinnamon, myrrh, sandalwood
It has been said that Santalum was reformulated quite a while ago. However, based on how it currently smells, a more fitting adjective would be 'castrated' rather than 'reformulated'.

It should be noted that the original reformulation was blackish-brown in colour, whereas now it's a puzzling pale yellow. Although one has not had the opportunity to smell the original formulation, based on what's been said, their differences are as concerning as the discrepancy in the colour of the two liquids.

Originally conceived as a dominant sandalwood scent, the reformulated composition is anything but. Sadly, the main note is only vaguely detectable during the drydown. Other than that, a sharp and harsh medicinal aroma is all that can be detected for most of its duration (largely a result of the resinous myrrh accord, with cinnamon added to soften some of the rough edges).

For its hefty price tag, one would have expected a greater presence of sandalwood.
